ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team hits the road for its second consecutive meet, traveling to Gainesville, Ga., to swim against Brenau University Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs will be racing for their second time in six days. Asheville took first in four events but lost the overall meet at Campbell in its last outing Oct. 24.
NOTES
- Gainesville, Ga., is fourth-year head coach Elizabeth Lykins' hometown and the pool the Bulldogs will compete in is the same pool Lykins grew up swimming in.
- Asheville took first in four events at Campbell (Oct. 24) winning the 100 yard backstroke, 200 yard backstroke, 100 yard breaststroke and the 50 yard freestyle.
- Through two dual meets this season, sophomore Ale Sanchez has claimed first in four events. Against Campbell (Oct. 24), she took home the 100 backstroke (59.71) and the 200 backstroke (2:07.61) while against VMI (Oct. 9), she won the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.79) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.54).
- Freshman Morgan Rulevich has claimed first in three events in the season's first two dual meets. Against Campbell (Oct. 24), Rulevich took the top spot in the 50 yard freestyle (24.80) and against VMI (Oct. 9), she won the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.53) and the 100 yard freestyle (52.78).
- In just its fourth year of existence, Asheville swimming made its first appearance in program history in the national rankings on Oct. 13. Following a strong performance at the North Carolina Invitational to open the season and then a win over VMI (Oct. 9), the Bulldogs came in at No. 40 in CollegeSwimming.com's Oct. 13 Division I Mid-Major Poll.
- Asheville's roster features its highest number of swimmers ever (28) and nearly half are freshmen. The 12-member freshmen group is the largest signing class in program history and gives the Bulldogs considerable depth as they continue to build the program.
- The Bulldogs' two seniors – Galen Broido and Alessandra Troncoso – will be the first two student-athletes in the swimming program's history to join Asheville as freshmen and compete through graduation.
QUOTABLES
“We are looking forward to racing Brenau tomorrow. It will be a quick meet with 50s and 100s of strokes, and a fun format for both teams. We will take this opportunity to swim some alternate events for various team members.” - Fourth-year head coach Elizabeth Lykins
UP NEXT
- Asheville is back in the Justice Center Pool Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. ET for a dual meet against North Florida.
