BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Despite rallying back from two deficits, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team came up short in its regular season finale Tuesday night, losing 3-2 to Gardner-Webb. With Tuesday's match marking the conclusion of the regular season, the Bulldogs will now await their fate for the Big South Conference Tournament which begins Friday, Oct. 31.
TURNING POINT
The Bulldogs surrendered an early goal in the seventh minute but battled back to tie up the score in the 28th minute on a Paige Trent goal. After giving up a goal right before the intermission, Asheville again rallied back to tie up the score at two-all in the 60th minute. Asheville was unsuccessful in its attempt for a third comeback, as Gardner-Webb sent home the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute.
NOTES
- Junior Paige Trent notched her seventh goal of the season in the 28th minute to tie the match at one all. Trent's seven goals are tied with sophomore Caroline Houser for tops on the team. Over the team's last three games, Trent has recorded three goals.
- Sophomore Courtney Naber knocked home her fifth goal of the season via a penalty kick in the game's 60th minute. Two of her five goals have come off a penalty, as she is 2-for-2 on PKs this season.
- Asheville falls to 7-3 (.700) in games decided by one goal this season.
- Asheville and Gardner-Webb were tied with 15 shots apiece, however, GW tallied 11 on goal compared to Asheville's seven. Gardner-Webb also doubled up Asheville on corner kicks (8-4).
UP NEXT
- The Bulldogs will await their fate for Big South Conference Tournament action. The quarterfinals will take place the weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at the site of the higher seed.
