Men's Tennis opens 2015 with sweep over Mars Hill

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team opened the 2015 schedule with a clean sweep over nearby Mars Hill University with a 7-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs (1-0) did not drop a set on the afternoon, sweeping all six singles matchups and the three doubles contests. The win gives Asheville and head coach Tom Hand a season-opening victory over Mars Hill for the second-straight season.
In doubles action, the team of Alex Croker and Brett Landau notched a 6-4 victory in the No. 1 flight, while the duo of Josh Swindler and Daniel Kripak grabbed a 6-3 win in the No. 2 flight and in No. 3 doubles Thomas Orestis-Panoulas and Reid Dillon secured a 6-3 victory.
Singles action saw Kripak defeat Euquerio Guerrero 6-2. 6-2 in No. 1 flight, while Swindler defeated Alberto Ortiz 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 action. Croker took down Carlos Riesco 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 action. Landau knocked off Markus Gattner 6-3, 6-3 in No. 4 flight action, John Schubel defeated Sam Lee 6-3, 6-2 and Will Goldberg took down Blake Covington 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 flight.
The Bulldogs are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Greenville, N.C. to take on Norfolk State and East Carolina.
