ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team travels to Liberty on Wednesday afternoon for an early-season showdown with the defending Big South Conference champion, Lady Flames. Kick-off at Liberty will be at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs (6-3-1, 1-0-1 BSC) look to remain unbeaten on the road this season (3-0-1) on Wednesday. However, the Lady Flames will be a stiff challenge for the Blue & White. Liberty is 5-3-1 on the young season and 1-0-1 in league play. The teams played to a scoreless tie at Greenwood Field last year.

“We head into the Liberty game knowing this will be a very competitive game against a well-organized and athletic team,” stated Bulldog coach Michelle Demko. “I feel good about the soccer we are playing now. There is more fluidity to our attack and a greater team focus now that we are in conference play. This will be a good test for us with regard to playing on the road and having to battle for a result. I think we are up for the challenge."
The Bulldogs will be looking for their first regular-season win over Liberty since a 4-1 triumph in the 2005 season. The Flames lead the all-time series 14-8-2. Last year's tie gave Asheville its first point against LU since the 2006 campaign. The teams have met twice for Big South Conference championships with each team winning once. The Flames won the 2005 title with the Asheville winning the 2006 crown on penalty kicks.
Demko's club continues it three-game league road trip at Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Blue & White return to Greenwood Field next week for home matches vs. Winthrop (Oct. 8) and Radford (Oct. 11).
Senior midfielder Amanda Dailor leads the Bulldogs in scoring with four goals, three assists and 11 points. Caroline Houser and Paige Trent are next with three goals each. Senior goalkeeper Heather Muller has three shutouts on the year and a 1.19 goals against average.
