CLINTON, S.C. – Paige Trent scored with five seconds left in regulation as UNC Asheville earned a 2-2 tie at Big South foe Presbyterian College Saturday afternoon.
The tie allows the Bulldogs (6-3-1, 1-0-1 BSC) to remain unbeaten in four road contests (3-0-1) this season. It also marked the second road game in a row the Bulldogs used a late goal to send a game into overtime. Asheville scored with 28 seconds left last Sunday to tie Alabama A&M before winning 3-2 in double overtime.
Trailing 2-1 late in regulation, the Bulldogs were awarded a corner kick. Amanda Dailor's corner kick got into the goal area. Trent was able to find the loose ball, and she tallied her second goal of the game to knot the match at 2-2.
Each team had chances in each overtime period but could not score. Asheville's 1-0-1 league mark is its best start in Big South Conference play since the 2006 season.
PC opened the scoring when Sarah Yoss scored off a corner kick to put the Blue Hose in front, 1-0 at 21:41.
Trent responded in the 39th minute. She scored off a free kick from Dailor to tie the match at 1-1.
The home team scored early in the second half when Kristen Peagler scored on a breakaway at 46:02 to push the Blue Hose in front, 2-1.
PC held on from that point before Trent's third goal of the season got the tie.
Bulldog goalkeeper Heather Muller made nine saves for the Bulldogs. The Blue Hose had a slight advantage in shots, 23-22.
Asheville is scheduled to host South Carolina State this Monday afternoon at Greenwood Field starting at 5 p.m.
