ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team looks to go 2-0 in Big South Conference play on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Presbyterian College for a key league match starting at 2 p.m.
Asheville (6-3-0, 1-0-0) picked up its sixth win of the season on Wednesday with a thrilling 1-0 league victory over Campbell at Greenwood Field. Amanda Dailor scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to give the Bulldogs the home win. Senior goalkeeper Heather Muller stopped nine shots, including a diving stop with less than a minute play.
The Bulldogs will face a Presbyterian College (3-4-0, 0-1-0 BSC) squad that lost a heartbreaking 1-0 double overtime decision to league kingpin Radford on Wednesday. PC downed Asheville at Greenwood Field last year, 1-0.
"We hit the road Saturday for our second conference game. Presbyterian is coming off a tough overtime loss and they will be looking to redeem themselves against us,” stated Bulldog coach Michelle Demko. “We need to be consistent in our discipline with regard to our attacking shape and transitional play. If we do those two things, we give ourselves the best opportunity for success."
Saturday starts a busy week for the Blue & White. Asheville hosts South Carolina State on Monday in a make-up game starting at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs then hit the road for league games at Liberty on Wednesday and Charleston Southern next Saturday afternoon.
Senior midfielder Amanda Dailor leads Asheville in scoring with four goals and 10 points. Senior goalkeeper Heather Muller has allowed just seven goals and has two shutouts on the season in seven appearances.
