ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team opens Big South Conference play Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field when the Bulldogs take on Campbell starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $5.

Asheville (5-3-0) comes into Wednesday's match after a thrilling 3-2 overtime win at Alabama A&M Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs fired 33 shots in the match but trailed 2-1 with less than 30 seconds left in regulation. Freshman Emma Houser scored her first career goal to send the game into overtime.
Asheville earned the win when junior Kennedy Garrett scored her second goal of the year in the 104th minute during the second overtime win. The victory kept the Bulldogs a perfect 3-0 on the road this season.
Michelle Demko's team plays a solid Campbell squad on Wednesday. The Camels are much improved this year under first-year coach Stuart Horne. CU is 2-4-1 but has been very competitive in every one of its matches.
"It is always exciting to start conference games and playing at home makes it even better. We have enjoyed our fans and community support this season,” stated Demko. “Campbell has been in some tight games this season and come up short. That is not for lack of effort or determination. They are a hard working team that can strike at any time. I expect them to stay in the fight the duration of the game.
“We have to commit to our game plan and stay focused on our team and what we need to do to give ourselves the best opportunity for success,” added Demko.
The Bulldogs edged the Camels last year at Greenwood Field, 1-0 on a goal from Amanda Knapp.
Asheville is being led in scoring this season by senior midfielder Amanda Dailor and freshman forward Caroline Houser. Both players have scored three goals and have eight points.
Senior goalkeeper Heather Muller has done the job in goal for the Bulldogs. She has a 1.22 goals-against-average with one shutout.
