ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville head baseball coach Scott Friedholm has announced the hiring of former Mars Hill head coach Dan Taylor as a volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming season.

"We are fortunate to add Dan Taylor to our staff.  He is a good person, great husband, and tremendous father. We look forward to having Jen (his wife) and JJ (his son) around our program,” stated Friedholm. “We wish his daughter Monica was around more, but she is a freshman catcher on the UNC Wilmington Softball team."

"Dan has had experience and been successful at every level he has coached,” added Freedom, “Dan will work primarily with our outfielders and coach first base."

Taylor has enjoyed a great deal of success in his head coaching career. He began his career at Frederick Community College in 1996. Dan coached there from 1996-2002 and had an overall record of 160-77.

He came to Mars Hill in 2002 and coached through the 2012 season, leading the Lions to 232 wins during that span. Taylor finished his career with Mars Hill as the school's all-time winningest baseball coach. He led the Lions to the SAC championship game twice and was named Coach-of-the-Year.

Dan coached the last two season and Enka HS and was named MAC Co-Coach of the Year last season.
