ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Jordan Frazier scored 28 points to lead Wofford to a 70-52 road victory over an injury-riddled UNC Asheville squad Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.
The cold-shooting Bulldogs (2-5) were without three starters on Saturday due to injuries. Freshman Bronaza Fitzgerald led the home team with a career-high 14 points. Tianna Knuckles added 13 points, while Brittany Gwyn contributed 11 points and five assists.
The Terriers (2-5) also had Chanel Stokes in double-figures with 19 points and five steals.
Asheville shot a season-low .339 (20-of-59) from the field and 11% from the three-point line (2-of-18).
Wofford led for most of the game and by as many as 13 points in the opening half. The Bulldogs made a charge right before the half and cut the lead to 34-31 at halftime. Jeannie Buckner's trey late in the half cut the margin to three at intermission.
Frazier led the Wofford attack with 16 points in the opening half. Gwyn kept Asheville close with nine points.
In the second half, Asheville was within one at 37-36 on a Knuckles lay-up before Wofford began to pull away.
The Terriers went on a 15-3 run over the next five minutes to race to a 52-39 lead. Stokes scored seven points during the run
Asheville closed to 10 at 56-46 on Knuckles' trey at the 6:27 mark.
But the Bulldogs could get no closer as they only scored six points the rest of the game
The home team shot just .267 (8-of-30) from the field in the second half.
UNC Asheville is back in action Wednesday night when the Bulldogs play at Furman starting at 7 p.m.
