Women's Hoops Win Exhibition 76-56

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – KJ Weaver scored 19 points and collected 11 rebounds to lead UNC Asheville to a hard-fought 76-56 exhibition victory over Brevard College Saturday evening at Kimmel Arena.
The Bulldogs also picked up 14 points and nine rebounds from Tianna Knuckles. Shonese Jones and Chatori Major added nine points each.
Brevard was led by Madison Lenox with 16 points. Shelby Wolfe added 11 points.
Asheville led 57-48 with six minutes left before finish the game on a 19-8 run. The Bulldogs went on a 9-1 run getting three-pointers from Ja'Da Brayboy and Knuckles to fuel the run.
The Bulldogs held a 54-34 rebounding advantage as they had 20 offensive rebounds. Weaver was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
In the first half, Brevard led 17-12 before Asheville scored 14 straight points to take the lead for good at 24-17. Knuckles led the run with seven points.
The Bulldogs finished with a 35-27 halftime lead. Weaver had eight first-half points for the Blue & White.
The Bulldogs open the season Friday night against East Tennessee State at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m.
