Bulldogs Roll to 87-48 Win over Johnson & Wales

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville placed three players in double figures as the Bulldogs rolled to an 87-48 victory over Johnson & Wales Wednesday night at Kimmel Arena.
Sophomore guard Andrew Rowsey led the home team with 20 points. Freshman Alec Wnuk added 12 points, while fellow freshman forward Kem Ubaru pumped in 11 points.
The Wildcats (4-2) were led by Rickey Porter's double-double as he scored 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Asheville got off to a sluggish start and trailed 8-7 after the first media timeout. Johnson & Wales had an early 13-4 advantage on the boards.
The Bulldogs eventually settled down and went on a 12-0 run to race to a 19-8 lead. Rowsey led the run with seven points as he knocked down a long three-pointer to give the home team its first double-digit lead at 11:40.
Asheville followed with an 18-3 run as it used its size and strength to pad the lead to 38-15. The Bulldogs got players from five different players during the run.
The home team settled for a 42-21 halftime lead. Rowsey led the way for Asheville with 13 points. The Bulldogs had a 27-8 advantage on points in the pain. Corey Littlejohn sparked the home team's defensive effort with four steals in the first 10 minutes of the contest.
Asheville padded the lead in the second half as the Bulldogs substituted liberally throughout the period. Eleven different players scored for the Blue & White in the second stanza with guard Ethan Wilmoth leading the way with seven points.
After getting out-rebounded in the first half by the Wildcats, 20-19, the Dogs did a much better job in the second half with a 28-12 advantage.
The Bulldogs shot .522 from the field (35-of-57) for the game and had 21 assists. Asheville's bench outscored the visitors by a 58-11 count.
UNC Asheville plays next at Southern Conference foe ETSU Saturday night at 7 p.m.
