ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team looks to get back on the winning track when Big South rival Winthrop comes to Greenwood Field for a Big South battle starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $5.
Wednesday's match will be video-streamed and can be seen for free on the Big South Network. Fans can access the match under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.
The Bulldogs (6-5-1, 1-2-1 BSC) look to snap a two-game losing streak on Wednesday. Asheville fell at Charleston Southern on Saturday, 3-2 on a late goal in the 83rd minute. Caroline Houser and Paige Trent scored for the Blue & White.
Winthrop (4-6-0, 0-3-0 BSC) picked up a win Saturday night with a 2-1 overtime victory over Francis Marion.
Michelle Demko's club looks for its first win against Winthrop since the 2008 season when the Bulldogs edged the Eagles, 1-0 in Rock Hill. The Lady Eagles have won the last five meetings between the teams, including a 1-0 win last year on a goal from Krystyna Freda in the 84th minute.
“Winthrop is another opportunity for us to come together and get back to a full 90 minutes of mental and physical focus. They have a dangerous player in Krystyna Freda. We will certainly have to know where she is at all times,” stated Demko. “We are playing the best soccer we have ever played, which is where teams want to be during this time in the season. Our goal is to now capitalize on the talent we have and the opportunities in front of us. This is an important game, as we are looking for momentum down the stretch of our schedule.”
Senior midfielder Amanda Dailor leads the Bulldogs in scoring with four goals, four assists and 12 points. Freshman striker Caroline Houser has four goals, two assists and 10 points. Senior goalkeeper Heather Muller has started 10 times, earned two shutouts and posted a 1.59 goals-against-average.
Wednesday's game starts a two-game homestand for the Bulldogs as they'll host Radford Saturday at 2 p.m.
