Women's Soccer Loses at Longwood, 3-0

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood scored three times in the first half en route to a 3-0 Big South Conference women's soccer victory over UNC Asheville Saturday evening at Longwood Soccer Stadium.

 

The loss dropped the Bulldogs (9-8-1, 3-5-1) into eighth place in the Big South Conference standings with 10 points. Asheville finishes the regular season at home against Gardner-Webb Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. The team will honor its four seniors prior to the game.

 

Samantha Phillips scored for Longwood at 4:21 to give the Lancers the lead at 1-0 as she connected on a shot from 10 yards out.

 

It stayed 1-0 for most of the half until the home team scored twice in an eight-minute stretch to take a 3-0 lead. Olivia Colella scored at 33:09 when she scored on a loose ball off a corner kick.

 

Lilly Payne finished the scoring at 41:43 to give the Lancers a three-goal lead.

 

Longwood finished with a 20-7 advantage in shots while the Lancers had nine corner kicks to none for the Bulldogs.

 

Paige Trent had three of Asheville's seven shots. Heather Muller made four saves for Asheville in the first half. Keller Dixon played the second half for the Blue & White and did not allow a goal, while making  five saves.
