Volleyball Gets Road Win at S.C. State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Christine Lakatos recorded 10 kills as UNC Asheville earned a non-conference road victory over South Carolina State, 3-0 Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won that match 25-13, 25-18.
Asheville (5-17) bounced back to get the win after losing a heart-breaking five set decision to Big South foe Gardner-Webb Friday night at home.
“I'm really pleased that we went on the road and picked up a win this afternoon after a tough loss on Friday night,” commented Asheville coach Frederico Santos. “We had a good team effort today from top to bottom.”
The Bulldogs controlled the match from the start as they only trailed in a set three times the entire game.
Shelby Erickson had eight kills for the Blue & White, while Katie Davis and Madison Vaughn had seven kills each. Davis recorded 28 assists. Vaughn added four blocks.
The Bulldogs hit a season-high .494 in the match as they had 44 kills on 77 swings. Asheville had 15 kills in the opening set with no errors in 21 attempts.
UNC Asheville is back in action Friday night at Justice Center when the Bulldogs host Charleston Southern starting at 7 p.m.
