ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team heads to High Point for a key Big South Conference battle with the Panthers Wednesday evening starting at 7 p.m.
Tonight's match can be seen for free on the Big South Network. Fans can access the match at uncabulldogs.com under the multimedia tag.
The Bulldogs (8-6-1, 2-3-1) look to build on the momentum of a two-game winning streak. Asheville edged league rival Radford, 1-0 last Saturday and then blasted South Carolina State Monday evening, 5-1.
“Looking ahead to the High Point game, we can expect a high speed of play with both teams being organized and wanting to commit numbers forward in the attack,” stated Bulldog coach Michelle Demko. “We will need to remain disciplined in connecting our lines to help us stay compacted defensively. The attacking side we will need to better with off ball movement so we can hit our targets and join in to create numbers up situations."
The Panthers will be a tough foe for Asheville. High Point is 5-4-3 overall and 2-2-1 in league action. HPU fell to league-leader Liberty Saturday at home, 2-0. It was the first loss of the season for the Panthers at Vert Stadium this year.
The teams played to a 1-1 tie last year at Greenwood Field. Kennedy Garrett scored for the Blue & White that day.
Senior midfielder Amanda Dailor leads the Bulldogs in scoring with four goals, seven assists and 15 points. Her seven assists is challenging the single-season school record of nine set by Kaitlyn Eckert in the 2012 campaign. Freshman Caroline Houser is next with five goals and 14 points, followed by Paige Trent with five goals and 12 points.
Senior goalkeeper Heather Muller has been solid for the Bulldogs in goal with a 1.68 goals-against-average with three shutouts, two in league play.
The Bulldogs return home on Saturday to host Coastal Carolina at Greenwood Field starting at 2 p.m.
