ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team is home on Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Bulldogs host Big South foe Radford at Greenwood Field. Admission is $5.
Saturday's match can be seen on the Big South Network for free under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.
Asheville (6-6-1, 1-3-1 BSC) looks to snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday after falling to Winthrop at home on Wednesday, 5-0. In one of the more odd matches of the season, the Bulldogs controlled play for a majority of the game as they out-shot the Eagles, 24-13. But Winthrop's Krystyna Freda scored four goals as the Eagles scored on their first two shots of the match and went on the league win.
The Bulldogs face a stern test in Radford. The Lady Highlanders (6-5-2, 3-1-1 BSC) are among the best teams in the league from year-to-year and appear to be good again. RU had a six-game unbeaten streak snapped on Wednesday with a 2-1 loss to Liberty.
The Highlanders are 8-0-1 vs. Asheville in the last nine matches. RU has won its last three matches at Greenwood Field though all have been one-goal affairs. The Highlanders downed the Bulldogs, 4-0 last season at Radford.
“We are looking for the Radford game to get us back on track. We are giving points away to teams at a time during the season where separation on the table is critical,” stated Bulldog coach Michelle Demko. “We are playing good soccer, but moments where we lack focus have become detrimental to the outcome. We are creating chances, being dangerous in the final third. We have to be better about maximizing those opportunities. I remain excited about this group and their potential. There is more talent in them waiting to happen.”
Senior midfielder Amanda Dailor is enjoying an excellent season with four goals, four assists and 12 points. Freshman forward Caroline Houser should make a push for the All-Rookie team with four goals and 10 points. Paige Trent has scored three of Asheville's last four goals and has four for the season.
