Men's Tennis Advances With 4-0 Victory over Longwood

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference championships on Wednesday with a 4-0 first-round victory over Longwood at the Winthrop Tennis Center.
Asheville won the doubles points and then posted singles victories from John Schubel, Alex Croker and Brett Landau to get the four points it needed for the victory.
The Bulldogs (11-9) started out well in doubles. Alex Croker and Brett Landau quickly won at #3 flight as they downed Steed Johnson and James Fudge, 8-1.
The matches at #1 and #2 doubles were much closer as both went back-and forth. Finally, Asheville's #1 team of Adrien Langeard and Matt Waissen slipped past Edward Becker and Daniel Elston, 9-7 to put the Bulldogs in front, 1-0.
In singles play, Croker won at #6 as he roared past Bhanrani Sankar, 6-1, 6-1 to put Asheville on top 2-0. John Schubel gave the Dogs a 3-0 lead moments later when he won at #5 over Harry Kelleher 6-2, 6-2.
Landau finished the match off for the Bulldogs as he dispatched Johnson at #4 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
