CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sarah Gentry captured the 800 meters on Saturday to highlight UNC Asheville's performance at the 49ers Classic as both Bulldog track teams performed in their first outdoor meet of the season.

Gentry, the defending Big South champion in the 800 meters, posted a time of 2:09.26 as she beat out 97 other runners from throughout the country to win going away. Her time of 2:09.26 is a new school record that breaks a record that had been set in 2001 by Zola Davis.

The UNC Asheville women's 4x800 relay team finished in second place as the Bulldog relay team posted a time of 9:38, finishing behind Clemson. The foursome consisted of Emma Bussard, Alyska Kalmeijer, Alyssa Lashway and Kelsie Rubino. It was the second best time in school history.

The 4x400 relay team took fifth with a time of 3:59.35. The relay team was led by Anna Gelbach, Alyssa Lashway, Molly Harkavy and Sarah Gentry.

In field events, Meredith Foster finished fourth in the high jump as she posted a jump of 1.60 meters. Ashlei Clodfelter came in ninth in the javelin with a throw of 38.56 meters.

On the men's side, Andy Thornburg took ninth in the 3000 meters as he posted a time of 9:10.

The 4x400 relay team of Chris Murray, David Ryland, Brent Schouler and Ryan Catrine finished fifth with a time of 8:23.

The Bulldogs will compete next weekend at Western Carolina.
