ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville baseball team is home this afternoon when the Bulldogs host Furman at Greenwood Field starting at 3 p.m.

Asheville (7-5) is coming off a 1-2 record at the Hughes Brother Challenge at UNC Wilmington this past weekend. The Bulldogs fell to N.C. State (10-1) and UNC Wilmington (8-1) on Friday before coming back on Sunday to down the Seahawks, 7-2.  Asheville was scheduled to play N.C. State on Saturday but that game was washed out.

"I'm really proud of our guys to bounce back on Sunday and get a win over a great UNC Wilmington squad," commented Bulldog head coach Tom Smith. "We didn't play that badly on Friday but left too many runners on base and at times we were a little nervous. We're still trying to figure some things out but we're making progress."

Asheville has a busy week starting with today's game vs. the Paladins (7-5). The Bulldogs play at two-defending national champion South Carolina on Wednesday night (7 p.m.) before returning back to Greenwood Field on Friday for a three-game series with Morehead State this weekend.

"We've got some pretty good challenges in front of us, but I'm glad we've got four games at home this week," declared Smith. "The game at South Carolina should be a great experience for our guys."

Senior infielder Cody Buch is Asheville's top hitter entering today's action with a .393 average. Second baseman Jordan Lurie is next with a .391 mark. Billy Creighton is hitting .389 with three home runs and 16 RBI. Freshman Hunter Bryant is off to a solid start with a .353 mark.

On the mound, Ethan Steible has not been scored upon in four appearances and has one save. Starting pitchers Ryan Dull, Dean Roland and Drew Spear are all 2-1 on the year.
