ASU (4-2-2) dominated much of the match but Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen was brilliant for the Bulldogs. He stopped seven shots on the evening.
The Apps took an early lead. Ryan Lavigne scored his third goal of the season at the 7:51 mark when he connected on a shot from the top of the box to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead.
ASU out-shot the Bulldogs (1-5-2) 5-2 in the opening half but could not score again and went into intermission with a 1-0 lead.
ASU had posted four straight shutouts but that streak would be broken by Wood in the 51st minute. The junior forward took a pass from Bobby Castro. His shot from 18 yards out went into the back of the goal, tying the match at 1-1.
The Mountaineers, ranked seventh in the South, out-shot Asheville 12-3 in the second half but Hurskainen made five saves to keep the home team off the scoreboard.
In overtime, neither team could get much offense going as the Bulldogs settled for their second tie of the season.
The Bulldogs are back on the road at Big South Conference rival Radford Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
