Bulldog Volleyball Stuns Elon in Three Sets

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team picked up an impressive 3-0 victory over Elon in the first match of the Gamecock Invitational Friday morning at the USC Volleyball Complex. The Bulldogs defeated the Phoenix in three close sets, 25-22, 27-25, 28-26.
Elon entered the match unbeaten at 5-0 but Asheville (2-2) got key points at key parts of each set to win its second match of the season.
The Bulldogs were led by Cindi Miller with 14 kills and nine digs. Sophomore Anna Moore added 10 kills and three blocks. She did not have a hitting error in the match in 20 attempts. Junior Holly Shelton added 12 kills.
Alex Stewart sparked the defense with 18 digs. Setter Hallie Morse finished with 40 assists and contributed four kills in seven attempts.
Asheville hit very well in the match with 48 kills and just 10 errors and hit .345.
The Bulldogs will continue play in the tournament and will next battle Davidson at 2:30 p.m.
