Bulldogs Fall To Gamecocks, Miller Named To All-Tournament Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Playing against South Carolina in the final match of the 2011 Gamecock Invitational the UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the host Gamecocks, falling by the scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-10 to the Southeastern Conference foe.
Senior outside hitter Cindi Miller was named to the All-Tournament squad for her efforts this weekend. Miller tallied 11 kills against the Gamecocks, recording 48 kills over four matches. Setter Hallie Morse posted 17 assists to lead all Bulldogs while Miller led all Asheville players with 11 digs.
With the loss Asheville falls to 3-4 on the year while South Carolina improves to 7-0.
South Carolina was paced by Juliette Thevenin who accounted for a team-high 10 kills. Taylor Bruns posted 26 assists and Bethanie Thomas had a match-high 12 digs.
The Gamecock defense controlled the net most of the night, tallying nine total team blocks. Teresa Stenlund posted six blocks (two solo) to lead all players.
With the loss Asheville finishes the Gamecock Invitational with a 2-2 records. The Bulldogs started the event with a 3-0 sweep of Elon before falling to Davidson later in the day. The Blue & White earned a 3-2 victory over Gardner-Webb this morning before falling to the Gamecocks this evening.
The Bulldogs will next be in action when they take part in the Country Inn & Suite Invitational hosted by UT-Chattanooga beginning next Friday. Asheville will play ETSU and Tennessee Tech on Friday before playing host Chattanooga on Saturday.
