ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team is back home this weekend and will play two matches at Greenwood Field, looking to pick up the Bulldogs first wins of the season. Asheville hosts Georgia State Friday at 4 p.m. and then takes on South Carolina State Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.bigsouthsports.com.
The Bulldogs (0-6-0) put forth a good effort on Sunday at Appalachian State before falling 1-0 to the Mountaineers.
""I am very proud of our effort on Sunday," stated second-year head coach Michelle Demko. "It was a very even match. We were unlucky to give up a goal but are improving and that is a bright spot for our program. As the season goes on, we want to continue to improve and gain momentum for our conference opponents. We showed up for 90 minutes today and competed with a good App State team. We certainly had our chances to score but unfortunately the ball did not fall for us today."
Asheville hopes to build on that good play this weekend. Georgia State is 1-5-0 on the season, while South Carolina State has a 1-3-2 worksheet on the year.
This will be the first ever between the Panthers and the Bulldogs on Friday. Sunday's match will be the seventh time Asheville and S.C. State have squared off with the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville holding a 6-1 series advantage. SCSU won for the first time last season, 3-1 in Orangeburg, S.C.
