ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville women's soccer coach Michelle Demko spent a week in Los Angeles last week helping coach the U.S. Under-20 National Team.
Demko worked with the 25-person team at the Home Depot Center as the U-20 team begins preparations for the 2012 FIFA World Cup. The second-year Bulldog coach was invited to work the camp by former national team head coach April Heinrichs and University of Virginia head coach Steve Swanson from July 23-31.
"To be invited in to help coach on staff with April Heinrichs and Steve Swanson was an incredible opportunity," stated Demko. "Both coaches have a vast amount of knowledge and success at the college and international level. It was an easy decision to accept the invitation.
"The week spent in Los Angeles with the U-20's far exceeded my expectations, and I came away a better coach with a better understanding of how to work with players," added Demko. " I had access to some of the best staff in the world with regard to strength and conditioning, nutrition and rehabilitation. It was, by far, the best coaching education environment I have ever experienced."Monday, October 30
