Women's Soccer Falls to Davidson, 8-1

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson College scored six consecutive goals in the second half to break open a close match as the Wildcats downed UNC Asheville 8-1 in the season-opener for the Bulldog women's soccer team Saturday night at Alumni Stadium.
Davidson led 2-0 at halftime before the Bulldogs struck early in the second half. Sophomore Amanda Knapp sent a pass to freshman Amanda Dailor. The rookie forward chipped in a shot over Wildcat goalkeeper Ranae Cairns arms, into the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1 at the 48:21 mark.
But Davidson responded with two quick goals in the 53rd minute to push the lead to 4-1. The home team added four more goals to remain unbeaten at home in the last 12 matches dating back two seasons.
Freshman goalkeeper Heather Muller made 11 saves for the Bulldogs. Davidson had a 34-4 edge in shots on Saturday.
The Bulldogs will have the week off before playing their home opener. Asheville will entertain Tennessee Tech on Sunday, Aug. 28 at Greenwood Field starting at 2 p.m. The match will be video-streamed at www.uncabulldogs.com.
