UNC Asheville To Welcome Wofford To McCormick Field
04.20.2011 | Baseball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will play its second contest of the season at historic McCormick Field on Wednesday evening when the Bulldogs play host to Wofford College as the two teams will meet for the second time this season on the diamond.
Asheville is currently 15-21 on the season with an 8-3 record at home. The Bulldogs defeated the Terriers 4-0 last Wednesday in Spartanburg, S.C., thanks in part to a 3-RBI day by junior Grant Gajdosz and freshman Brian Connolly throwing six shutout innings in his first collegiate start.
The Terriers are currently 17-20 on the year with a 1-11 mark in away contests. They are led offensively by junior infielder Konstantine Diamaduros, who is batting .345 on the year. Wofford had lost nine in a row, including the loss to the Bulldogs, before sweeping a league series with Southern Conference foe Davidson.
All three victories for the Terriers over the Wildcats were by one run.
UNC Asheville went 4-1 on the week, with victories over SoCon foes Western Carolina and Wofford during the week and a 2-1 series victory over Big South Conference opponent High Point this past weekend. With the victory over WCU the Bulldogs swept the season series with the Catamounts for the first time ever.
The series victory over High Point was the first for Asheville since the 2004 season, and was also the first time since 2001 that the Bulldogs won a series against HPU at Greenwood Field.
First pitch is tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 apiece for adults and $3 for children. Admission is free for UNC Asheville students with a valid student ID.
