Women's Indoor Track Team Takes 3rd Place at Big South Meet

Fourth-year coach Jesse Norman was named Coach of the Year on the women's side as he led Asheville to its highest finish ever in the Big South Indoor Meet.
Senior sprinter Natalie Pearson led the Asheville effort with two second-place finishes. She finished second in the 100 meters (7.58) and second in the 200 (24.81).
Sarah Gentry came in second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15. Sophomore Melanie Kulesz came in second in the mile at a time of 5:04.
Kulesz also came in fifth in the 5000 meters (17:56). On Thursday, she took fourth in the 3000 meters.
Asheville also got a fourth from Ashlei Clodfelter in the long jump with a leap of 11.81 meters.
The 4x400 relay team posted a time of 4:02 and came in fifth place. The relay team consisted of Sarah Gentry, Emily Pineda, Natalie Pearson and Alyska Kalmeijer.
"Our women performed exceptionally today," commented Norman. "Everything went pretty well for us today. You plan meets and hope for the best and that happened to us today. I couldn't be prouder of our effort at this meet and hopefully this will push us to ever bigger things in the outdoor season."
The men's squad finished in eighth place with 11 points.
Sam Maynard led the way for the Bulldogs as he took fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56. In the 60 meter hurdles, Milan Ristic finished fifth as he posted a time of 8.28.
Asheville's relay teams scored its final three points. The Distance Medley team came in seventh place, while the 4x400 relay team finished in eighth place.
Each team placed a member on the All-Academic team for their respective sport. Rachel Carson made the team for the women's squad, while Simon Haake made the men's team.
