ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville got goals from three different players as the Bulldogs downed Presbyterian College 3-0 in Big South Conference women's soccer action at Greenwood Field Tuesday afternoon.

The shutout registered by Asheville (3-9-0, 2-1-0 BSC) was the Bulldogs first since a 1-0 victory over High Point on Nov. 1, 2009.

Asheville out-shot the Blue Hose (2-9-1, 0-2-1 BSC) 28-8 and controlled play for much of the match.

"We got better as the game progressed and did some good things on offense," stated Asheville coach Michelle Demko. "It was nice to play a lot of people today and we did a nice job keeping up the offensive attack for 90 minutes."

The Bulldogs opened the scoring early in the match. Sophomore Amanda Knapp took a long pass from Mary Kate Tucker and scored on a breakaway. Tucker's pass sent Knapp in alone on PC goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson from 20 yards out. Knapp slid the ball into the far left corner for a 1-0 Asheville lead at 7:11.

Asheville had some other great opportunities in the opening half but Anderson stopped nine Bulldog shots to keep the home team in front by just one goal.

Presbyterian College had some opportunities, too. Emily Boggus and Kelly Kozera had great looks in the first half but Asheville goalkeeper Heather Muller made good saves on each shot.

The Bulldogs struck early in the second half to build a 2-0 lead. Amanda Dailor sent a pass to Ferriss Roberts who scored from the six for her second goal of the season. The goal came at 49:20

The visitors came close to scoring 10 minutes later but Sara Simpson's shot hit the right goal post to keep the shutout intact. Jessica Kramer followed up with a blast that just went wide for PC.

Asheville sealed the victory in the 72nd minute. On a corner kick, Leilani Halkiotis sent a perfect corner that Kaitlyn Eckert was able to head into the back of the net for a 3-0 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday night at 7 p.m. when they travel to Campbell for a Big South Conference contest.
