Radford Edges Women's Soccer, 1-0

RADFORD, Va. - Freshman Kara Nay found a cross in the first minute and buried her first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game-winner of a 1-0 hard-fought match over UNC Asheville on a cold and rainy Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (2-9-0, 1-1-0 BSC) out-shot the Highlanders, 10-9 and had an edge in corner kicks, 4-1 but could not get the ball into the back of the net. The league-leading RU squad improved to 7-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Big South Conference play.

Nay scored 26 into the match on a pass from Julie Ruhe. The high-scoring Highlanders were held in check by a determined Asheville defense after that goal.

With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Ferriss Roberts of Asheville blasted a shot off a corner kick towards the near post but goalkeeper Che' Brown came up with the game-saving stop.

Amanda Knapp had five shots on goal for the Bulldogs in the match.

Asheville will come home on Tuesday afternoon as the Bulldogs host Presbyterian College at Greenwood Field starting at 3 p.m.
