MOBILE, Ala. -- The UNC Asheville volleyball concluded its weekend trip to the 2010 South Alabama Invitational on Saturday afternoon, defeating Alabama State 3-0 in the morning session before falling to Alabama A&M in a five-set match to finish out the tournament with an overall record of 3-1.
Senior outside hitter Kelsey Benorden recorded a season-high 25 kills while fellow senior Jenna Dover posted a career-high 12 kills for the Bulldogs.
Head coach Julie Torbett was disappointed in the Alabama A&M result, but was impressed with both teams physicality in the match.
“A&M was a very good, physical team, and it was a good battle - but we lost,” said Torbett. “Next weekend is going to be a tough tournament for us so it was good for us to play this type of match.”
The Bulldogs will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to take part in their third tournament of the season. Asheville will play in the ETSU Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State Sept. 10-11, taking on UNC Greensboro on Friday and then squaring off against Austin Peay and ETSU on Saturday.
