SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville out-shot USC Upstate 21-1,1 but the Spartans scored the only goal of the match and recorded a 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs Wednesday night.

Asheville fell to 2-4-0 on the year, while USCS won for the first time this season and improved to 1-3-2.

The only goal of the match came at 14:47 when Maurice Beggs scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Asheville really dominated play for the rest of the opening half as it out-shot Upstate 15-8 but simply could not get the ball into the back of the net.

The Bulldogs controlled the second half as well as they out-shot the home team, 6-3. USCS goalkeeper Jason McCabe earned the shutouts with five saves. There was a team save in the first half that prevented an Asheville goal.

The visitors had a nice balance to its attack as 14 different players took a shot in the match.

Asheville is back on the road Saturday night when it travels to ETSU for a 7 p.m. The Bulldogs come back home on Sept. 29 when they host Gardner-Webb at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m.
