NASHVILLE, TENN. - Belmont scored a goal in each half and that was enough to hold off UNC Asheville 2-1 on the final day of competition at the Hyatt Place/Lipscomb Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-3-0) out-shot the Bruins 20-12 but could not get a goal until late in the match when Bryan George tallied his first goal of the season off a pass from J.J. Morrow.

Belmont opened the scoring with 15 minutes left in the opening period.  Nico Olsak found Brandon Tarr, who played a ball to Diego Figueroa right in front of the net.  After Bulldog goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen came out to intercept the pass, Figueroa put the ball in the back of the net to give Belmont the 1-0 lead at the 31:25 mark.

The Bruins then increased the lead to two with less than 20 minutes to play when freshman Cody Stratton scored the first goal of his career. Olsak played a ball to Tarr at the right side of the box.  Tarr then one-timed it across the eight yard line to Stratton who put away the goal to make it 2-0.

Asheville out-shot Belmont 12-5 in the second half and finally got on the board when George scored at 88:57. Morrow sent a ball into the box and there was a scramble that George won and scored on.

The Bulldogs made one more try to tie as George's header just went wide with 42 seconds left in the match.

Asheville plays again this Wednesday night when the Bulldogs play at USC Upstate starting at 7 p.m.
