ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team opened the 2010 season in impressive fashion with a 7-0 victory over local foe Mars Hill at the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (1-0) enjoyed two convincing wins in doubles play to get the doubles point. Asheville dominated the singles action as only Matt Waissen and Jonas Brobeck had to go three sets to win.
Asheville assistant coach Thomas Hand was delighted with the opening win which came over a Mars Hill squad that is ranked 15th in NCAA Division II and won the South Atlantic Conference last spring.
"This is a great way to start the season," stated Hand. "For most of our team, it was their first ever dual match and there was some nerves early. However, we settled down and got the job done against a good Mars Hill team. We were especially pleased with our doubles play on the day.
