Men's Tennis Competes in ITA Event in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Invitational this past weekend and posted some solid results against some strong competition.

Ryan Matthews had one of the big highlights in singles with a thrilling three-set victory over Chad Brady of Wake Forest. Matthews rallied to win 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 over his ACC foe and advanced to the second round of the tournament. He would fall to second-seeded Jared Prinsky of Duke 6-1, 6-0. Prinsky would advance to the semifinals of the singles flight.

Jonas Brobeck lost to Amosh Prahakar of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-0 in the main draw but bounced back in the consolation round to defeat John Dunn of The Citadel, 6-2, 6-3.

Matt Waissen and Nathan White had some tough luck as they dropped two matches during the weekend with both falling in a tie-breaker in one of their matches. Waissen fell to Peter Billingham of Coastal Carolina, 6-3, 6-4 and then dropped a tough three-setter to Wesley Moran of Clemson, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (5) in the consolation round. White lost to Conner Sherwood of Wake Forest, 6-1, 6-3 in the main draw and then lost to Zack Reece of UNC Greensboro, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (8) in the consolation round.

The doubles team of Nicolai Nonnenbroich and White earned a win in the main draw as they routed the team of Anders/Huynch of Charlotte, 8-3.  They then fell in the round of 32 to the team of Burkhardt/Hernandez, 8-3 of UNC Chapel Hill.
