Bulldogs Compete at Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, TN - The UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up the two-day competition at the 32nd annual Niswonger Invitational on Saturday with a competitive showing.
Melanie Kulesz led the way for the Bulldog women. Kulesz finished fifth in the invitational mile with a time of 5:17.20.
On the men's side, Eli Chirchir finished 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.84.
Other notable performances included Raymond Urrutia breaking a five-year old school record in the 60 meters (7.05) once held by former sprint great Enita Okodiko. Urrutia also recorded a 22.64 in the 200 meters, which is number three all-time on the Asheville career list.
Alyska Kalmeijer finished 18th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.51. Clair Powell finished 19th in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:04.38
The Bulldogs return to competition next weekend in Lynchburg, VA at the Liberty Open on January 29-30.
