SPARTANBURG, S.C.-UNC Asheville goalkeeper Derrick Filip saved a penalty kick in the 21st minute to help the Bulldogs battle to a scoreless tie at Wofford on Monday night.

Wofford (0-0-2) had control of the game early as it recorded the first four shots of the game in the opening ten minutes. On a cross into the box, the Bulldogs were called for a handball, resulting in a penalty kick for the Terriers. Armin Kinigadner took the shot and went to the left, but Filip made the save at the 20:47 mark.

UNC Asheville (1-1-1) took just five shots in the match, two by Bryan Bartels. The Bulldogs had their only shot on goal in either overtime in the 108th minute when Jake Sides had a header off a corner kick that was saved by Thomas Hunter.

For the match, Wofford had 26 shots to Asheville's five. Hunter made three saves in the tie, while Filip had ten saves for the Bulldogs. The Terriers had 14 corner kicks to five for the Bulldogs. UNC Asheville had ten fouls to Wofford's eight, and there were no cards issued.

UNC Asheville will travel to Davidson on Friday, Sept. 11, to play the Wildcats in 7 p.m. match.
