ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will attempt to win its first match of the season when the Bulldogs travel to Wofford Thursday night at 6 p.m.
Asheville (0-1) dropped its opening game of the year on Sunday at Appalachian State, 1-0. The Lady Apps scored a goal in the 14th minute and then held off several Bulldog attacks to post the victory.
"We played well for the most part at App," commented Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "I like the way we bounced back from App's early goal and did some things. We need to put the ball into the back of the net when we have our opportunities."
Wofford (0-2) is looking for its first victory of the year. The Terriers lost to Clemson, 4-0 and VCU, 3-0.
"Wofford is a solid club," stated Cornish. "They played two very good teams to start the season, so I know they'll be ready for us on Thursday."
This is the first meeting between the teams since the 2001 season with Asheville holding a 4-2-1 series advantage.
The Bulldogs are at East Tennessee State on Sunday before returning home to host Furman Wednesday (Sept. 9) at 4 p.m.
