ASHEVILLE, N.C. - McKenna Stockhausen scored twice to lead UNC Asheville to a 2-0 women's soccer scrimmage victory over Carson-Newman Monday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

The first half was scoreless before Stockhausen was fouled in the box midway through the second half. She scored the first goal of the scrimmage to put the Bulldogs in front 1-0.

The senior forward then rebounded a Katy Beeler shot and scored her second goal to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead and eventual victory.

Carson-Newman is picked to win the South Atlantic Conference this season.

"We have a lot to work on but it was nice to play someone else," commented UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We did some good things throughout the scrimmage.  It was nice to see McKenna score a couple of goals and good to see us get a shutout."

The Bulldogs open the 2009 season against Clemson of the ACC at home on Aug. 28 starting at 4 p.m.
