CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team is a preseason pick to finish in eighth place in the Big South Conference this season according to the league's preseason poll that came out on Wednesday.

Defending champion Radford was the pick to finish in first place, followed closely by Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers won the Big South regular-season championship a year ago.

Charleston Southern was selected to finish in third, followed by High Point and Liberty. Winthrop was the pick for sixth place with last year's surprise VMI in seventh. The Bulldog program was picked eighth, followed by Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian.

"We really don't worry about preseason polls," stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We certainly hope to finish much higher than eighth place this season."

The Bulldogs finished last year with a 5-13-1 overall record. They were 3-6-0 in league play and came in eighth place. Asheville lost seven one-goal matches a year ago, two to conference champion Radford.

"We were in a lot of matches last season but just couldn't find a way to win them," explained Cornish. "Hopefully, we will be a little more consistent this year and win some of those close matches."

The Bulldogs open the season at home against ACC foe Clemson on Aug 28th at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m.
