CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? Juliana Duncan was named as UNC Asheville Woman of the Year by the Big South Conference this week. She along with seven other student-athletes from around the league was named as finalists for the Big South Conference Woman of the Year.
Winthrop University softball player Lisa Kingsmore was named the Big South Conference Woman of the Year for 2008-09.
Duncan was a four-year starting defender for the Bulldogs, playing in 77 career matches. She helped UNC Asheville win the 2005 regular-season championship and the 2006 Tournament title, earning All-Tournament team honors that season. Duncan received the UNC Asheville Coaches Award in 2006-07 and served as team captain her junior and senior years. Named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District III Third Team, Duncan was honored this past year with the UNC Asheville Math Department Senior Distinction, the Western Carolinas American Chemical Society Outstanding Senior for UNC Asheville, and the UNC Asheville Scholar Athlete of the Year. She also spent time as a chemistry tutor, was a member of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, and raised $3,500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
