Natalie Pearson Wins 200-Meter Dash at Winthrop Asics Invitational

Pearson took first in the 200-meter dash as she finished with a time of 11:57:36.0. She finished just ahead of Campbell's Karalyn Duncan (11:57:36.2) and Charlotte's Toree Roseboro (11:57:36.9).
Pearson placed second in the finals of the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.11. Camarra Lurrie of Charlotte won the race (11.76) and Campbell's Courtney Kinlaw finished third (12.28).
On the men's side, the big highlight of the day was the performance of Keith Scruggs. Scruggs finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.37 meters. It was the second best throw in school history. Scruggs also competed in the discus (27.58) and javelin (35.71).
Will Beasley had a solid day as he finished 12th in the triple jump (12.43) and 16th in the long jump (6.15).
Daniel Corriher competed in the shot put (13.17) and finished 11th. Freshman Jeremy Harn placed in shot put with a throw of 10.88.
Dane Corriher ran hard in the 400 meters and had a time of 50.56. Adam Schnapp finished 21st in the 1500 meters (
On the women's side, Emily Pineda had her highest finish of the year with a seventh-place finish in the discus. The freshman had a throw of 39.86 meters. Her sister Rebekah took 17th (30.84). Emily placed 11th in the hammer throw (36.55) with Rebekah in 18th (33.00).
Rebekah Pineda had a strong showing in javelin with a 10th-place finish (28.45). Morgan Weeks placed 17th in the shot put (9.91) and also ran in the 100 hurdles (17.54).
Corrier Trotter came in ninth in the high jump (1.50) and competed in the long jump (4.19).
Freshman Allison Shields ran in the 800 (2:50.87) and fellow freshman Mackenzie Wheaton competed in the 1500 (
“Overall it was a good day,” stated UNC Asheville coach Jesse Norman. “We had a great day from Natalie. I was very excited about the performance of Keith Scruggs. He's really improved as the year has progressed. We also had some other solid results against a good field.”
The Bulldogs will compete in the Duke Invitational next weekend (April 3-4).
