Pearson Gains Experience at UK Trials

Pearson Takes Third in 200 at Big South Indoor Meet

CLEMSON, S.C. ? Junior sprinter Natalie Pearson finished in third place in the 200 meters to highlight UNC Asheville's performance at the Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field championships held at Clemson University on Friday.

Pearson earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic team for the first time in her career. She was also part of the 4x400 relay team that finished in sixth place that earned the Bulldogs three points in the meet.  The relay team consisted of Morgan Weeks, Michelle Busse and Katie Olert and posted a time of 4:09.

The junior sprinter placed third in the 200 with a time of 24.79.

The women's squad earned 15 points in the meet, while the men's team captured seven points.

Freshman distance runner Emma Bussard finished in eighth place in the 5000 with a time of 18:28. She took ninth in the 3000 at 10:31.

The Distance Medley team of Rachel Ambrosia, Morgan Weeks, Katie Olert and Michelle Busse took sixth with a time of 13:24.

Morgan Weeks participated in the Pentathlon and scored 2,010 points.

Emily Pineda competed in the shot put and her best throw was 9.92 meters. She had a toss of 11.09 in the weight throw. Rebekah Pineda had a throw of 8.81 in the shot put.

On the men's side, freshman Sam Maynard finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1.56 to highlight Asheville's performance.

 The 4x400 relay team came in sixth place. That team consisted of Dane Corriher, Adam Matthews, Duane Stepp and Sam Maynard. They had a time of 3:28.

Will Beasley just missed scoring points in the long jump and triple jump with ninth-place finishes. He had a jump of 9.27 meters in the long jump and 12.65 in the triple jump.

Simon Haake had a throw of 11.80 in the shot put. Haake also competed in the weight throw and had a throw of 12.08. Daniel Corriher posted a throw of 13.40 in the shot put and 12.13 in the weight throw.

Duane Stepp was named to the Big South All-Academic team on the men's side.
