CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Lindsey Montgomery had nine points and seven rebounds but UNC Asheville could not overcome a cold shooting day in a 59-37 loss at Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-5) shot a season-low 30 percent (12-for-40) from the floor including 3-for-14 (21 percent) from three-point range.  Montgomery led the team in both points and rebounds while Chioma Okoli had seven points and five rebounds. Lindsey Thompson had six points and Linda Aughburns added five points and six rebounds.

Charlotte (3-5) placed three players in double figures. Erin Floyd had 16 points. Shannon McCallum had 12 points and seven rebounds while Amanda Dowe added 11 points and five rebounds. The 49ers held a 49-31 rebounding advantage and owned a 23-3 lead in second chance points.

McCallum scored the first five points of the game as Charlotte built a 19-9 lead over the first 9:15 of the game. The 49ers built a 16 point lead at the 6:25 mark. Asheville pulled to within 11 points at 28-17 on pair of free throws with 3:16 left in the half. The Bulldogs had a chance to cut the deficit to under 10 points but Erin Floyd converted on a three-point play and Rachelle Coward hit her only three-pointer of the game with 11 seconds left in the half to make the score 36-20 at halftime.

The Bulldogs went just 4-for-21 (19 percent) in the second half. Kendall Shepard's lay-up with 8:17 left in the game as Asheville's last field goal. The Bulldogs scored on just five free throws the rest of the way but Charlotte only outscored Asheville 9-5 over the last eight minutes.

Charlotte shot 35.2 percent for the game and 28 percent (4-14) from three-point range. The 49ers held a 32-16 advantage in points in the paint and a 16-5 lead in points off turnovers.

Asheville will take time off for final exams before returning to the court on Dec. 11, against Southern Wesleyan at 7 p.m. at Justice Center.
