Bulldogs Sweep Highlanders; Move on to Semifinals

Benorden recorded her conference leading 19th double-double of the season. Miller was the only other player in the match with double-figure kills. Raquel Miotto led all defensive players with 22 digs. She had one service ace in the match to give her 63 aces on the season, breaking UNC Asheville's single season record of 62 set by Frida Sigurdardottir in 2002.
Radford (12-21) was led by Lauren Cleary who had eight kills and 13 digs. Emily Hayes had six kills and Katelyn Meeks had 13 digs. The Highlanders had a 7-6 blocking advantage.
The Bulldogs (25-9) trailed the only time in the match 1-0 and 2-1 in the first set. But Asheville scored four of the next five points and would not trail the rest of the match.
Asheville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set. Radford tied the set at 13-13 but the Dogs went on a 7-3 run to lead 20-16. Ficker's kill gave the Bulldogs the second set 25-19 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
With the Bulldogs leading 9-7 in the third set, Asheville went on a 7-2 run to take a commanding lead in the set 16-9. The Bulldogs out-hit the Highlanders .185 to .056 in the match and had a 69-48 advantage in digs. The Bulldogs saw their hitting percent improve in each set cumulating with a .333 attacker percentage in the final set.
Asheville will face No. 4 seed Coastal Carolina on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the second semifinal of the day. The first semifinal will pit No.3 Liberty against No. 6 Charleston Southern.
