ASHEVILLE, N.C. - McKenna Stockhausen scored on a penalty kick in the first half as UNC Asheville ended the 2009 season with a 1-0 Big South Conference victory over High Point Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs ended the season with a 5-10-1 overall record and 2-7-0 mark in Big South Conference play. Asheville did not qualify for next week's Big South Conference Tournament in Charleston, S.C.

The Panthers finished the regular season with a 5-14-1 overall mark and 4-4-1 worksheet in league play.

The match was a victory for the Bulldog seniors playing their final match. It was Stockhausen's 12th career goal and her seventh game-winning goal in her career. Senior goalkeeper Veronica Lazar made her final game in an Asheville uniform a winning one. She stopped nine High Point shots to earn her 13th career shutout.

The Bulldogs came out and dominated the early part of the game as Meagan Bradham just missed scoring on a breakaway 30 seconds into the match. Asheville had the first four shots when Stockhausen was fouled in the box in the 12th minute.

The penalty kick was the first for the Bulldogs this year. Stockhausen buried on the right side of the goal for a 1-0 Asheville lead at 12:27.

High Point turned things around and got its attack going as it out-shot the Bulldogs 7-2 in the final 20 minutes of the half. They appeared to tie the match in the 36th minute when Ashley Holleran scored on a header. However, the goal was wiped out due to an off-sides call.

In the second half, the Panthers applied pressure on the Asheville goal but Lazar made three saves in the final 30 minutes.
