Volleyball Sweeps Presbyterian Behind Benorden?s 17 Kills

The Bulldogs won their fourth straight match and have won eight of their last nine to improve to 15-5 on the season but more importantly move to 4-0 in Big South play. Presbyterian drops 7-12 overall and 2-3 in the Big South.
Lisa Shelly led PC with 11 kills. Asheville out-hit PC .245 to .106 in the match and out-dug the Blue Hose 50-39.
Raquel Miotto had 20 digs to lead all players. She moved up to ninth place on the NCAA all-time digs list. Cindi Miller had nine kills and two blocks while Lauren Ficker added six kills and three blocks.
"I thought we controlled the match throughout," said Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. "It was good to see Kelsey (Benorden) playing the way we know she is capable. This is a big week for us and it is good to get this win on the road."
The Bulldogs opened the match posting a .304 attack percentage in the opening set. Both teams had their lowest attack percentages in the second set but with the set tied at 18, Benorden led the Dogs on a 7-1 run to close out the set.
Set three was Presbyterian's best hitting set and the Blue Hose led for most of the set. Asheville tied the set at 17 and again at 22. A kill by Miller and a block by Miller and Ficker gave the Bulldogs match point. Miller put the match away with her ninth kill and gave Asheville its first three set victory since Sept. 18.
Asheville will return home this weekend for a pair of key conference matches. Friday night the Dogs host High Point at 7 p.m. and on Saturday Liberty comes to the Justice Center at 2 p.m. Both matches will be video streamed on the Big South Network.
