Cross Country Teams Compete at Blue Ridge Open at ASU

BOONE, N.C - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams participated in the prestigious Blue Ridge Open at Appalachian State Friday afternoon.
The Bulldog women's team finished in 12th place with 310 points. The men's squad took 14th with 336 points.
On the women's side, freshman Melanie Kulesz continued her solid rookie campaign with a 21st-place finish with a time of 19:05.11 over the 5K course. Freshman Clair Powell took 47th at 19:45.
Freshman Alyska Kalmeijer was the next runner for the Bulldogs at a time of 20:40. Kylie Smith was right behind her at 20:43. Rachel Ambrosia finished with a time of 21:03.
Rounding out the women's team were Erin Putnam (21:09) and Katie Olert (22:00).
On the men's side, sophomore Eliud Chirchir continued his good work in his first year in a Bulldog uniform. He finished 31st with a time of 26:09 over the 8K course.
Kent Rankin came in 48th at time of 26:30. Sam Maynard took 54th with a time of 26:36.
Adam Vick finished with a time of 28:08, followed by Jay Barringer (28:42) and Adam Schnapp (30:03).
Asheville begins its preparations for the Big South Conference Championship Meet that will be held in two weeks in Winston-Salem on Saturday, Oct. 31.
