Women's Soccer Hosts CSU & Coastal Carolina This Weekend
10.15.2009 | Women's Soccer
The Bulldogs (4-5-1, 1-2-0 BSC) are coming off an impressive 3-0 victory over Presbyterian this past Saturday. Asheville got goals from three different players in the victory. Senior midfielder Megan Bradham had a goal and an assist in the win. The Bulldogs also got goals from Chloe McCleary-Small and Katy Beeler. It was McCleary-Small's team-leading fourth of the season.
Asheville will be tested this weekend with both matches. Charleston Southern has the best overall record in the league with a 9-4-1 mark. The Lady Bucs are 2-1-1 in league play and blitzed the Bulldogs last season, 3-0 in Charleston. They have a high-scoring attack that is tough to slow down.
"Charleston Southern beat us pretty good last year and has a good team once again this season," stated Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We're going to have to play very well on defense to slow them down."
Coastal Carolina was the preseason favorite to finish second this season. The Lady Chanticleers won last year's Big South Conference regular-season crown. They got off to a very tough start and have a 4-10-1 worksheet entering this weekend's action. However, CCU has won its last two matches and is 2-2-0 in league play. They edged the Bulldogs 3-2 in Conway a year ago.
"Coastal Carolina is coming around and just in time to play us," commented Cornish. "They have a good team and are always a tough opponent for us to play."
NOTES - CSU has won on its last two trips to Asheville...Coastal Carolina has won the last three meetings between the teams...the Bulldogs have not allowed more than two goals in a match this year...Small leads the team in goals (4) and points (9)...Asheville has played just three home matches this season...senior goalkeeper Veronica Lazar has a 0.85 goals against average.
