Asheville Women Finish Road Trip at Charleston Southern on Monday

CHARLESTON, S.C.?UNC Asheville's women's basketball team will wrap up a five-game road trip at Charleston Southern on Monday night at 5:30 p.m. The game can be heard live on AM-1310/970 WISE in the Asheville area. The game will also be video streamed on the Big South Edge for a small fee.
Both teams are coming off losses in their Big South Conference openers on Saturday. Asheville (3-10) fell 68-55 at Coastal Carolina while Charleston Southern (5-7) lost 73-68 at home to High Point.
Asheville Freshman Lindsey Thompson has been in double-figures in each of her last four games including a season high 16 points on 4-for-8 shooting from three-point range at Coastal Carolina. On the current road trip, she is the Bulldogs leading scorer at 12.5 points per game and is 14-for-29 (48.3 percent) from three point range.
Senior Ana Baker scored 10 points as she played in her 100th career game on Saturday. Baker had five assists on Saturday tying Mandy Edwards for second on UNC Asheville's all-time Division I assists list. She is now nine helpers shy of the school record. Fellow senior Jessica Monroe will play in her 100th game on Monday. Monroe has played in 55 straight games which is the most on the team.
Charleston Southern brings the Big South's top scoring team into the contest. The Lady Bucs are scoring 75.8 points per game. Pam Tolbert had a team-high 16 points against the Panthers. She averages 14 points per game on the season. Kelsey Wasmer averages 12.6 pts and Ali Schwagmeyer averages 9.3 pts and a team-high 5.6 boards per game. The Bucs love the 3-point shot. They were 9-for-32 against High Point and average 26 3-pt attempts per game. They make 8.3 per game for 31.8 percent. CSU will be playing without leading scorer Katie Tull who is averaging 14.1 points per game.
Charleston Southern is one of three Big South teams that the Bulldogs lead the all-time series against. Winthrop and Gardner-Webb are the other two. Asheville leads the series 26-22 but the Bucs have won the last three meetings sweeping the Dogs last season for the first time since 2002-03. Asheville has not won in Charleston since 2006 as the Bucs have won four of the last six meetings.
