Bulldogs Fall to Liberty, 75-48

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Kendall Shepard tied her career high of 17 points and Ana Baker added 11 points as UNC Asheville fell 75-48 to the visiting Liberty Flames on Monday night.
Liberty (10-7, 4-0 BSC) was led by Big South Preseason Player of the the Year Megan Frazee with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Amber Mays had 13 points and seven assists and Avery Warley added 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Flames led from the start to finish of the contest. In the first half, Liberty shot 47 percent (16-34) from the filed and 50 percent (5-10) from beyond the arc. The Flames also scored 23 points off of the Bulldogs' 14 first half turnovers. Liberty held a 42-19 lead at the halftime break.
In the second half, the Flames continued to build on their lead. The Bulldogs' could not handle the Liberty's size as the Flames scored 34 points in the paint.
The loss drops UNC Asheville to 7-12 on the season and 4-2 in the Big South Conference.
Shepard went 6-for-12 from the floor matching the 17 points she scored against Johnson C. Smith earlier this season. Baker went 5-for-10 from the floor. Ipek Derici added seven points and four rebounds in 10 minutes of work.
UNC Asheville has a week off before it's next game. On January 26, the Bulldogs travel to High Point for a 7 p.m. game. Liberty hosts Charleston Southern on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Vines Center.
